Components of the Digital Factory such as simulations operate according to the GIGO-principle (Garbage In Garbage Out). Quality and availability of data are crucial for success.
In order to keep the data acquisition expenditure for the Digital Factory as low as possible, it is recommended to create direct interfaces to the respective data sources. Due to data and system diversity the interface activity often turns into an extensive data management project.
Thereby it is not just a matter of structuring the data correctly for the Digital Factory and making them available for all Digital Factory tools in the process planning software but also of developing an integration concept (integration of the Digital Factory into existing and future IT environments), which is sustainable in the long term. If specific electronic data sources are missing or if no suitable interfaces are available, work must be done in the IT environment beyond the Digital Factory.
