The modelling and analysis of pedestrian flows can provide answers to crucial questions when planning complex buildings or facilities:

How long does it take to evacuate the building in case of a fire? How many people can get through a door or along a staircase?

In airports and in shipbuilding such simulations have been standard for several years. In addition, they are now increasingly used for special constructions such as sports stadiums, museums, office buildings, shopping centres, railway stations, large-scale company and trade fair premises as well as other complex facilities.

The ED PLATO simulation tool by the INCONTROL Simulation Solutions Company (PLATO -> Pedestrian Logistics Analysis Tool) can be used to model various scenarios. Bottlenecks and the dangers associated with these become visible and can be redressed by means of suitable measures. This way identifiable risks are minimised.
