BVL – Federal Logistics Association
The German Logistics Association (BVL) is an open network of people who are committed to effective cooperation in the globalised economy. Its main concern is to highlight the relevance of logistics and supply chain management and to promote their application and further development.
Around 10,000 specialists and managers from industry, trade, services and science are organised worldwide in the BVL. The association sees itself as a platform where members can look beyond their own areas of work to gain and share both professional and personal benefits. The exchange of knowledge and experience plays a central role in this.
As a non-profit organisation, the BVL operates on a non-profit basis. It is independent, neutral and does not represent any individual interests in political and economic discussions. Nevertheless, it is actively committed to promoting logistics as a whole.
A key pillar of the network is its more than 290 volunteer officials who are committed to the BVL alongside their professional activities. Regional groups in around 40 locations worldwide ensure local and regional presence. They organise over 300 free events for members each year, promoting exchange and networking.

ASIM – Specialist Group for Simulation in Production and Logistics
Simulation technology is now a recognised tool for planning, evaluating and monitoring processes in production and logistics. It is used to validate solution concepts, identify potential for improvement and, increasingly, to aid short-term decision-making in operational processes. Its application is just as necessary for solving logistics-related issues as it is for investigating production-related alternatives.
Although answering questions relating to the overall functionality of interlinked processes, existing optimisation options, alternative control strategies and dimensioning aids is now part of everyday business in many companies, the decision to use simulation methods is still made very hesitantly.
The reasons for this lie in the multitude of tool developments and a general lack of transparency regarding the possibilities and performance limits of simulation technology. In addition, the growing demands on companies require flexible application of simulation tools in relation to new issues and tasks. New opportunities bring new developments. In future, these measures, new developments and research results should be publicised and coordinated more quickly.
The specialist group therefore represents the forum for simulation users and developers in the field of production and logistics. Its primary tasks are to bring together the work being done in industry and research, to stimulate specialist discussions and to promote the methodological and practical further development of simulation technology.
