Simulation games offer an interactive and playful introduction to the complex topic of simulation.
They can be used in variety of ways to test the approach to simulation:
1. Simulation business games in the company
Simulation games can be used in companies before the introduction of simulation software to prepare employees for its use in a fun way. With the help of simulation business games, new employees and employees from other departments also learn about the complex interrelationships in warehouse logistics, for example.
2. Simulation business games in teaching, e.g. at universities
As an interactive form of learning, simulation business games are an ideal supplement to traditional face-to-face teaching. Students and university staff can interactively discover the advantages of simulation and learn how to approach simulation studies in a simple and fun way.
We would like to give you the opportunity to experience simulation through business games and have therefore created business game tasks on various topics. Whether as a workshop or download to try out on your own, there is something here for every application:
Try out HRL optimization in a team: Warehouse logistics simulation workshop
Experience our warehouse logistics simulation game live in a 4-hour workshop. The participants work in small teams in competition with each other to optimize the design of a high-bay warehouse under certain practical conditions. The special feature: the simulation game is based on a plant simulation model and allows participants to check changes to parameters immediately in the simulated warehouse.
Participants playfully discover the basic relationships and complex interactions in a warehouse system and can experience for themselves the unexpected effects that parameter changes can have, such as changing the number of aisles, different storage strategies, changing buffer sizes and much more.
Our trainers guide the participants through the workshop, show them how to experiment with simulation models and give tips on how to use the simulation game.
The participants play alone or in small teams in parallel in the competition. This makes the chances of success of different strategies visible and increases the motivation to achieve the best result.
In addition, participants receive a temporary license that gives them full access to the simulation game for a further month. This allows you to try out further strategies and complete the optimization of the HRL at your leisure after the workshop.
Procedure
- Presentation of the planning task
- Mathematical planning of the high-bay warehouse
- Presentation of the simulation planning game
- Implementation of simulation experiments for warehouse optimization
- Evaluation, presentation of results
Planning game duration: approx. 4 hours
Costs
- Warehouse logistics simulation game workshop: €150 per participant plus VAT (The workshop takes place for 5 or more participants.)

We offer three of our business games as free trial versions for download
The simulation games are formatted as Plant Simulation Pack&Go files and require no installation of Plant Simulation on the computer and no license.
All simulation game functions are included in the free version, but only predefinded parameters can be changed (changes to the source code and the addition of further controls and objects are not possible).
Ordering procedure simulation game
In the simulation game, six different ordering procedures are to be examined with regard to their effects on stock development and the delivery service level of a company. Initial stock and replenishment time can be parameterized for an article master of 10 products created in the simulation model.
Based on a random generation of customer orders over a year and the triggering of orders via a selected procedure, the stock and any shortages of each product stored in the model can be analyzed…

Buffer simulation game
Different buffer variants are to be examined with regard to their effectiveness in a simple production system. The aim is to minimize the average lead time per production order and thus the total processing time of all orders. For this purpose, the planner has one parameter, the maximum fill level, available for each buffer variant…

Kanban simulation game
In the simulation game, a 3-stage fan production, from rotor/stator production to final assembly (assembly2), is to be optimized according to the Kanban principle.
The aim of the simulation game is to set the minimum stocks of containers in such a way that at least 85,000 fans can be produced in the simulation time with a minimum average stock…

Did you like the simulation games and would like to modify or develop them further, e.g. to use them in your own teaching? We offer the unencrypted versions* of the simulation games Ordering Process, Buffer and Kanban as a bundle for purchase. Here you can make changes to the source code and add further controls and objects using a Standard, Researcher or Professional license of Plant Simulation.
Simulation bundle Ordering process, buffer & Kanban (open-source): € 1,750 plus VAT.
If you are interested in purchasing the simulation bundle, simply contact us. We will be happy to send you more information and a non-binding offer.
If you need a Plant Simulation license, we will also be happy to send you a non-binding offer. You can find more information about Plant Simulation at www.Plant-Simulation.de.
*The SimTalk methods in the model are not encrypted here. Only methods of the licensing mechanism are excluded.
