Logistics Centre Planning Simulation

Industry: Automotive

Software: Plant Simulation

Initial situation: Concept review during the detailed planning phase

A company in the automotive industry was planning a new logistics centre. The concept was to be reviewed in parallel with the detailed planning, including an analysis of potential bottlenecks in the system.

Objective: To optimise conveyor systems and compare strategies

The aim was to optimise the conveyor systems, evaluate various consolidation and sequencing strategies, and examine the system’s behaviour under different scenarios.

Solution: Layout-accurate model with database integration

SimPlan created a layout-accurate simulation model with a direct database connection. The model mapped out storage location and stock management and could be controlled via a central configuration network.

Results: Savings in material handling, planning certainty

The simulation led to savings in material handling. The strategies developed were incorporated directly into the IT specifications, ensuring that the client ultimately had planning certainty for their new logistics centre.

Simulation as the basis for the IT specifications

The case study demonstrates how a simulation carried out alongside detailed planning not only reduces costs in material handling systems but also allows its results to be directly incorporated into the technical implementation.
