Realistically display and communicate simulation results from Plant Simulation, AnyLogic and Emulate3D
As a platform for 3D visualisation and simulation, NVIDIA Omniverse offers great potential for industry. In practice, its current benefits lie in the visualisation and enrichment of simulation results created with specialised tools such as Plant Simulation, AnyLogic or Emulate3D.
What is possible today?
Our simulation models provide valuable data about processes, plants and logistics flows. This information can be transferred to Omniverse via various interfaces, usually in the form of USD files or other compatible formats. In Omniverse, it serves as the basis for attractive and expandable 3D visualisation and further use within the Omniverse universe.
Practical example:
- Models developed in Plant Simulation for production optimisation can be displayed as animated scenarios in Omniverse.
- Logistics networks modelled with AnyLogic can be visually enhanced and presented interactively using Omniverse.
- Emulate3D models for virtual commissioning can be transferred to Omniverse and displayed there in realistic environments.
What is Omniverse currently suitable for?
- Advanced visualisation: Existing simulation data can be supplemented in Omniverse with materials, lighting effects and animations – for a convincing presentation to customers, partners or decision-makers.
- Communication & stakeholder dialogue: Realistic representations make simulation results easier to understand, which supports internal coordination and external communication.
- Research and development projects: Initial approaches to deeper collaboration between tools and Omniverse are emerging in current research projects to enable interoperability in the future.
Integration instead of collaboration
Even though Omniverse is designed as a platform for collaborative 3D simulation, the added value for companies currently lies primarily in its connection to existing tools – not in the simultaneous editing of simulation models across different systems. This means that Omniverse ‘refines’ existing content, but does not currently develop it further on its own.
Omniverse as a visualisation component in the simulation workflow
SimPlan focuses on practical benefits: Omniverse complements our established simulation tools with high-quality visualisation and opens up new possibilities in presentation and communication. As a technology platform with strong development potential, we are also keeping an eye on Omniverse in the context of research and development projects – without losing sight of the limitations of today’s practice.
