Initial situation: Pilot project to validate a new production plan
An automotive supplier was planning the production of rear seat benches and wished to validate this plan in advance. SimPlan was commissioned to create a prototype model for production and to provide the client with training in Simul8.
Objective: To validate input data and validate the planning as a pilot project
The aim was to validate the planning, validate the input data and, based on this, develop a pilot project for further applications within the company.
Solution: Simulation model in Simul8 with a customised user interface
The model was created in Simul8 and supplemented with a customised menu for data management and an overview of results. A specially developed module modelled the production station, including the set-up process following the last part of a batch.
Results: Bottlenecks identified, throughput compared with the plan
The simulation identified the bottleneck machines in the planned production. Furthermore, the planned throughput could be compared directly with the simulation results, and the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) was calculated.
Simulation as the basis for further pilot projects
The model not only served to validate this particular plan, but also as a template for the customer to use simulation themselves in future as an integral part of production planning.
