SimQueue: Optimising buffer planning in the early stages of plant design

SimQueue supports companies in the planning and optimisation of production facilities. Even in the early stages of a project, different buffer space distributions can be evaluated and analysed in terms of throughput, efficiency and potential bottlenecks.

The correct design of buffers has a major impact on a plant’s performance. Insufficient capacity can lead to blockages and waiting times, whilst oversized buffers tie up unnecessary space and investment. SimQueue helps to quickly compare different variants and make informed decisions as early as the planning phase.

Areas of application and typical uses

SimQueue is particularly suitable for the planning of production lines, assembly lines and interlinked material flow systems. The tool helps planners to evaluate the effects of different buffer capacities at an early stage.

  • Evaluation of buffer capacities in the concept and planning phase
  • Comparison of different plant variants
  • Identification of potential bottlenecks
  • Optimisation of buffer space allocation
  • Improvement of throughput and plant efficiency
  • Preparation of further simulation projects

Thanks to simple modelling, initial analyses can also be carried out without having to create a comprehensive simulation model straight away.

SimQueue offers a constantly expanding range of functions:

Modelling is carried out via a clear drag-and-drop interface. Plant structures can be set up quickly and different variants compared with one another.

Key functions include:

  • Calculation of throughput and efficiency for a given buffer space distribution
  • Optimisation of buffer space distributions for a target efficiency
  • Optimisation of the distribution for a given number of buffer slots
  • A wide range of customisation options for optimisation (upper and lower limits for individual buffers, capacity increments, setting individual capacities)
  • Up to five machine modules per alternative (see Expert Add-on)
  • Copying and creating multiple alternatives within a project (max. 2; see Expert Add-on)

In this way, SimQueue supports data-driven decision-making and reduces the effort involved in evaluating different plant concepts.

Structure and available extensions

SimQueue is available as an app and can be used free of charge in the basic version. Additional extensions are available for more advanced requirements.

“Expert” add-on as a one-off activation:

  • Unlimited number of projects and alternatives
  • Unlimited number of mechanical components per alternative

“Premium” subscription:

  • Printing of models
  • Saving models as images (png) or vector graphics (svg)
  • Capturing and storing camera images for individual model components
  • Mini overview map for large models
  • Conducting and storing measurement series with integrated stopwatch functionality
  • Exporting and importing projects
  • Customising the display of edges and text modules

The subscription can be tested free of charge for one month. After the free trial period, the subscription is automatically renewed for one month or one year (depending on the selected duration) unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the trial period. Your Apple ID account will be charged upon renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the free trial period. The subscription will renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel your subscriptions via your App Store account settings after purchase.

  • By connecting to a simulator, you also receive a dynamic evaluation of the model.
  • Through project management, projects can be stored centrally and shared with authorised users.

Licence model

SimQueue is available as a SaaS solution and for local use. Depending on your company’s requirements, the application can be operated in the cloud or on internal servers. It can be used platform-independently via a browser, tablet or smartphone.

SaaS customers benefit from automatic updates and low maintenance costs, whilst local installations allow for direct integration into the existing IT landscape. This allows SimQueue to be optimally adapted to individual safety and operational requirements.
